Voting event
Voting event types
Election or Poll: pick the one that matches how people will vote.
You choose the type when you create the event, and you cannot change it afterwards.
| Election | Poll | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can vote | Voters you add or approve | Anyone with the link |
| How they get in | Voter key by email, plus an optional Voter ID | Open link, plus an optional Voter ID or name |
| Voter self-registration | Yes, if you turn it on | No |
| Candidate self-registration | Yes | Yes |
| Sponsors | No | Yes |
| Pay to Vote | No | Yes (Starter or Custom plan) |
| Weighted voting | Yes | Only with Pay to Vote on |
| Typical use | Board, union, club, and association elections | Awards, nominations, fan votes, community polls |
Voting methods work in both
Each position picks its own method: plurality, approval, score, cumulative, ranked choice (IRV, STV, or Borda), or quadratic. One ballot can mix them. See Voting methods overview.
Two features need more than the type: quadratic voting needs a Starter or Custom plan and an event end date, and voting centers need a Custom plan.
