Weighted voting

Count some voters' ballots more than others, for example by shares held.

Each voter gets a weight. A score of 3 from a voter with weight 2 counts as 6. Voters without a weight count as 1.

Needs

  • An election, or a poll with Pay to Vote on.
  • Quadratic positions off. The two cannot be combined in one event.

Set it up

  1. In Voting Event Settings → Voting, turn on Enable Weighted Voting and set a Weight Alias such as Shares or Units.
  2. Give each voter a weight above zero, in the Voters tab or your import file.
  3. Check the voter list and test with a known weighted voter before voting starts.

How it counts

Plurality, approval, score, and cumulative positions multiply the raw value by the weight. Results show both the raw and weighted totals. Ranked positions apply the weight inside the IRV, STV, or Borda count, so a rank is never multiplied.
